What is JEE?

JEE Mains and JEE Advanced are the trending exams as of now, in India. As many of us are familiar with these wordings, let us make ourselves still more familiar with these National wide examinations.

JEE

Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is an All India Entrance Exam conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for the admissions in various top Engineering colleges. JEE Mains and JEE Advanced are the two examinations which replace the former AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Exam) and IIT-JEE.

In basic, the students who are aspiring to get admitted in NIT (National Institutes of Technology), IIIT (Indian Institute of Information Technology) and other CFTIs will be attempting JEE Mains and the person who is willing to get admitted in IIT (Indian Institutes of Technology) must be qualified in JEE Advanced, too. The eligibility criteria for the above mentioned two exams will be as follows:

Eligibility Criteria for JEE and Cut-off marks:

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains is a national wide exam, held right after the conduction of 10+2 or similar level examinations. In general, the basic qualification needed to attempt the paper of JEE Mains is 10+2 or other similar courses. The paper will be conducted for a total score of 360, in which the basic cutoff will be declared every year, depending upon the number of intake of students.
For instance, if the cutoff score will be declared as 120, the students who scored below 120 are strictly not eligible to attempt JEE Advanced. However, the caste reservations are available as in most of the other examinations. The cutoff details as per 2016, the latest examination of JEE Mains Results are as follows:

To be more apparent, the eligibility criteria for JEE Mains are less challenging when compared to that of JEE Advanced. The general criteria for the individual aspiring to attempt JEE Mains will be his 10+2, whereas the candidate willing to acquire a seat in IITs must cross two hurdles, JEE Mains and Advanced. In order to write the JEE Advanced Examination, the candidate must first be qualified in JEE Mains with a mentioned Cut-off score, failing which, the candidate has no eligibility to attempt the examination of JEE Advanced.

JEE for Architecture:

JEE also paves a path for the Architecture aspirants too. It provides an examination for Bachelor of Architecture on the name of JEE Mains Paper 2. JEE Mains consists of two papers, paper 1 as a path for the students willing to enter into technical field and the other, paper 2 as a path for the architecture aspirants. However, students have a choice of opting for both the papers. JEE Mains paper 2 consists of three main parts like Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Drawing Test. The patterns of both the papers are given below, in detail.

Question paper pattern for JEE Mains (Paper 1&2):

Paper 1 Pattern:

  • JEE Mains paper 1 consists of three major parts: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Each subject carries the weightage of 30 Questions
  • A correct answer fetches four marks (+4M), while the wrong answer drops a mark. (-1M)
  • So the total weightage of each subject is 120 Marks resulting in the total of 360 Marks

Paper 2 Pattern:

  • Similar to the paper 1, paper 2 consists of three major parts, too: Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing Test.
  • Mathematics consists of 50 Questions, each carrying a similar weightage of (+4M) and (-1M), so the complete Mathematics weighs 200 Marks.
  • Aptitude test consists of 30 Questions, with a total weightage of 120 Marks and a unit negative score for the wrongly answered questions.
  • Drawing test consists of 2 Questions, with a total weightage of 2X70 Marks = 140 Marks.
